Fabiola: the bartender and the dj

me and Fabiola- photo by Rachel Ridings
The night we were in Paracas the magic of being in a new place excited a sense of adventure, a call to wander the streets. The town seemed to be asleep already but a group of us were ready to celebrate the beginning of our journey. As we came up to a corner, the bass of a disco caught everyone’s attention. I noticed shadows of what appeared to be people dancing seen through the translucent glass windows, but as we came inside the single room dance floor was empty. The shadows were made by the one young girl who rushed down the stairs of the loft to greet us. Behind the bar there was another very young looking boy, not so easily excited by the large group of tourists. As we approached the bar she danced about making drinks and asked what music we liked…”I’m the bartender and the dj!” she said with a beaming smile.  I laughed and asked for her name, “Fabiola! Fabiola!”, she repeated.
